Twitter Mistake Causes Maryland GOP to Link to Porn

twitter porn scandal GOP mistake

The government has been rocked by big pornstar scandals lately, and this one is not quite as big but it is pretty funny and just shows that if you want to be discreet you must be careful to separate your porn watching habits from your professional endeavors. What happened was that the Maryland republican party’s Twitter account used to have the handle @mdreps, but they recently changed to @mdgop. However, someone – whether on purpose or by accident, no one knows – swooped in and took the @mdreps handle and started populating the page with hot porn pictures. Most of the pictures were of “Sexy Car Babes,” which mostly consist of cam models with an ad for a particular cam site where people can interact live with models.

This would have been no problem at all except for the fact that someone forgot to update the Twitter links on the national GOP web site, so the site and a lot of other assets were still linking to the @mdreps page. This was due to a failure on the part of the MD GOP group to update the national GOP page that they were changing their assets. The link stayed completely wrong, linking to pornstars from the end of January until the beginning of August of this year. What’s even more interesting is that Twitter offers users the option to freeze an old handle once they change over to a new one in order to prevent things like this from happening, but the MD GOP declined. Perhaps they didn’t imagine that such a thing could happen, or maybe they didn’t fully understand the situation, but either way it’s sure that if they try it again they will certainly do that!

So, this just illustrates how important it is to separate your porn watching from your personal and professional business. If you can’t do that properly then you might find yourself in a bind, the same way that Ted Cruz did a few years back when a staffer accidentally posted a tweet about porn to the wrong account and caused Mr. Cruz a lot of hassle. Watching porn isn’t a crime at all, but it is something that should be done only when and where it is appropriate – and that place is not your professional Twitter account no matter what your profession, unless you’re a pornstar or porn maker, that is.

In the case of the latter, post as much porn as you want, but otherwise it’s important to make sure that you don’t do anything too wild online under your professional persona. You may think that it’s not a big deal to browse porn on your work computer until you accidentally press the wrong button and end up sending your favorite porn scene to everyone in the department! Of course we are all for watching porn like a maniac but you have to do it smartly so you can keep getting your groove on carefree.
